This is the official sickness thread. Talk about whatever's ailing you, whether it's chronic pain, a cold, cancer, an annoying rash, the flu, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, etc.

To kick things off, I think I have a sinus infection.

I just joined the asthma club - started using an inhaler yesterday. And I have a chest x-ray tomorrow to see why I haven't been able to stop coughing for a year.

Been fighting a head cold for about a week. Scratchy throat, runny nose, general physical fatigue. No fevers though, thank ****. I can take a beating, but fevers ****ing drop me every time. Only annoying thing is that I've got some chronic tooth pain that tends to be mostly dormant until I get sick, and then my teeth get sensitive, which is just annoying. Really getting tired of finding the two lost rivers in my nose every morning when I wake up though. Can't wait for this to pass.

Afraid of jinxing myself, but I've not been sick for more than 1½ years. I wash my hands very often now, and it's cut down radically on the amount of colds and flu I catch. I work on a school with 600 kids. Still haven't been sick since I started working here, while co-workers take turns being sick around me, since it's the season for it right now.

Now that I've said this, I'm sure I'll catch something before the year is over.

My pants are too tight.

At. At a school. In Danish there's no distinction like that, so gimme a break.

Computers, chromebooks, projectors, smartboard, 3d printers, copying machines etc. I'm the "Misc. IT stuff" guy.

I prefer the idea of you sneaking onto the roof every day to chisel sculptures and ****

Still recovering from surgery here. I managed to drag myself to the gym for half an hour last night, and afterward I was so unbelievably tired I could barely drive home.

That happened to me on a 10 mile hike. I just sat in my car for like 20 minutes picking at trail mix and drinking water until i got the energy to drive 40 minutes back home.

Sucks.

I was seriously slapping myself to stay awake while I was driving.

Hacked up a big, bloody chunk of mucus and I feel all better now. Yippee!

I have a cough that hasn't gone away since Saturday night, and now I am in caffeine withdrawal because I was taking pills of it through finals week X_X

My student just told me that last year he got the flu shot but then got the flu anyway later that winter. He said he thinks the flu shot is a lie.

Many people that get the flu shot get the flu, but a milder version of what would have hit them had they not received the shot. Tell him to research the history of influenza (i.e. its death toll) before he makes himself more foolish

What? Fuck that. I only interacted with the student because he didn't have a partner for the speaking activity. You think I'm going to seek out a student and engage with him/her on my own time and of my own volition?

There's not just one virus out there. They (scientists or whoever) pick a few they think might be the popular ones trending that year and make vaccines for them. The flu shot doesn't inoculate for all the different imaginable strands out there. It's almost like betting on horses. Just cause you lose on a horse you bet on doesn't mean someone else doesn't win. Same with the flu and the flu shot. They (scientists or whoever) are picking the horses for you, for everyone who gets the flu shot. They could be placing a lousy bet that year and whammo! you got the flu, because some other virus decides to pull in the finally stretch and wins the horse race.
