Should Elph watch Videodrome?

Come on, it's the perfect flick for an arty moody outsider guy who doesn't like cinema.

YorkeDaddy 08-27-2018 07:33 PM

Oh definitely yes

WWWP 08-27-2018 07:40 PM

YorkeDaddy 08-27-2018 08:23 PM

Videodrome, Cosmopolis, Naked Lunch, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Existenz, The Fly, Maps to the Stars: All essential movies.

A Dangerous Method, Spider, some of his old horror movies: Not essential but worth watching.

He's got a few I haven't watched yet.

grindy 08-27-2018 11:56 PM

Eastern Promises is a corny, clichéd piece of crap.

What Cronenberg movie did you like?

I watch 0-2 movies every evening. On a good week, that becomes quite a few. Found the time by not watching TV programming anymore at all and by not playing games so much anymore either.

Videodrome is cool.
A History Of Violence is also not bad.
I've seen a couple more that I liked but it's been over ten years and I probably wouldn't nowadays.

Whaaaat

Lucem Ferre 08-28-2018 09:32 AM

Elf should watch Salo. And A Serbian Film. And Necromantic.

Edit: Elf should watch Daisy's Destruction.

MicShazam 08-28-2018 10:35 AM

Elph should not watch any movies at all. He wouldn't like them anyway.

It would go over his head.

MicShazam 08-28-2018 10:37 AM

And into his pants.

Frownland 08-28-2018 10:38 AM

Pasolini's Oedipus Rex is quintessential though.

A Serbian Film is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen tbh. 2/10, only bumped above a 1 because the lead actor did a pretty good job considering the trash script he was working with

MicShazam 08-28-2018 11:06 AM

I haven't seen it and I'm not going to. I think most movies even mildly in that direction are minus 10 out of 10, so I'm sure I would regret it if I ever did cave in and watch it.

WWWP 08-28-2018 11:08 AM

2edgy4me, reading the wiki once has always been enough.

It looked pretty cheesy and on the boring end of the shock spectrum. At least Gasper Noe can be occasionally thought-provoking.

YorkeDaddy 08-28-2018 11:12 AM

One of the grimiest and most unsettling movies I’ve seen is still to this day the OG 1974 Texas Chain Saw Massacre. You don’t need nasty gore and baby rape to make your film shocking. You need good acting and cinematography and a director with a vision rather than a desire to shock for the sake of it

Opening scene of Begotten for me.

Wikipedia’d

“The story opens with a robed, profusely bleeding "God" disemboweling itself, with the act ultimately ending in its death. A woman, Mother Earth, emerges from its remains, brings the dead body to arousal, and inseminates herself with its semen. Becoming pregnant, she wanders off into a vast and barren landscape. The pregnancy manifests in a fully grown convulsing man whom she leaves to his own devices”

Oh

Film majors love drama.

Often times it's what you don't see that really gets ya.

Begotten is a great film, Frownland. Essential for any preachy edge lord goth.

That explains everything

MicShazam 08-29-2018 11:39 PM

It's like that friend of mine who hates Dir En Grey because he used to date some crazy, insufferable anime weaboo chick who was really into the band.

MicShazam 08-30-2018 10:24 AM

They're gouda awful tbh

SmokeAndMirrors 08-30-2018 03:41 PM

That movie is amazing.
It's also really great for any altered state of mind.

Mondo Bungle 09-01-2018 05:11 PM

I think I rate what I know from Cronenberg like: The Fly = Videodrome > The Brood > Dead Ringers > Rabid > Scanners > Naked Lunch > Shivers > The Dead Zone

Oriphiel 10-23-2018 02:36 PM

Have you watched it yet, elph?

Frownland 10-23-2018 02:38 PM

Have elph seen Green Room?
