I can't remember what got posted when we discussed it before but with steak it's OK as the bacteria that can make you ill is on the surface so you can eat it rare but with burgers the surface area is everywhere as it's been minced.

I think someone said in theory you can get ill from rare burgers but it's very unlikely.

That person would be me and I stand by it.

Your post does make me wonder though: could you put a super rare steak through a grinder and make a burger out of it?

Yes.

But if you were sane at all you’d grind the steak raw then cook it to order.
