Edit: also about D&D, I have negative associations because the only D&D person I know irl is the sexually inappropriate loser in my office, but I have nothing against it really

I would have enjoyed watching D&D sessions more if any of them had a DM/players who had even a THIMBLE of charisma/creativity.

A mix of rules and role play and there can be a way to win or it can be openended. It's a sandbox of your imagination.
