Well i read hyping him up a bit yeah the special wasn't that great but it was pretty funny

As for the legacy of comedy... It's not about Dave saving us or being any sort of martyr it's just that's the standard response to backlash against edgy comedy is to point out that it has always had that element sorta built into it .. that doesn't mean the edgy material is something that i would advocate for seriously....

He does have good social commentary though... The trans bit was far from his best material too it just got the most attention cause it's the topic of the decade apparently

Framing edgy comedy (not that Chapelle is as edgy as he's attempting to be) as social commentary and as something not worth criticizing due to its permanence might as well be advocacy. Sophist intention won't undo that.

It is the crux of money/fame/status.....

That's no different from nannette or any of the leftist tryhard comedy where people try to make the most enlightened takes sound funny... Which they just don't imo. Where as Dave just takes everyman ignorance and tries to make that sound funny and imo does a better job

Definitely, it's very similar to tryhard comedy that only appeals to people who are desperate to be agreed with because that's exactly what it is.
