English or Spanish. (country, quote)

First, let me say I am NOT a racist and despise racism in ALL forms. That being said, first and gotten out of the way, I was just wondering what people thought of the following. How everything in America seems to be asking "English or Spanish" nowadays. I agree with Hispanic immigrants right to keep their own culture, but if you plan on LIVING here longer than a tourist, you should at LEAST have enough respect for our culture to just learn the language. Is that ignorant of me to say that the question English or Spanish shouldn't be so widespread here? If they don't even have that much respect for our culture coming here to TRY and fit in a little slightest bit, why bend over backwards to accomodate them? If that makes me sound ignorant, please tell me why. Someone.

It wouldn't, and I plan on doing it. (I'm gonna learn a few languages once my main college courses are out of the way) But being as English is the prime language of the nation, they should try to fit in, just as if I were to live in Mexico for even one year. I'd then learn Spanish out of RESPECT, especially if I were paying virtually no taxes and had so many advantages/luxuries. Are we going to ask 50 other languages also? What about Japanese for all the Japanese immigrants?

The PRIME language of the nation , not the ONLY language of the nation.

If they can`t speak english it`s their problem not yours. I don`t see why you`re so mad about it.

Yeah, but we don't cater to every other group. The closest thing to a universal language to make things simpler is the PRIME language of the nation. Like this job I had at a restaurant. The guys could speak no English and didn't want to learn. They joked that I'd have to learn Spanish working there. Why? I speak the common language here. I have no problem learning theirs, but if one of us should be first to learn, it should be them, since they came here as outsiders originally. If I moved to ANY nation, I'd consider it RESPECT to know at least that much, if not anything else. We don't cater to any other languages this much. I just don't see why we bend over backwards where this is concerned, when we don't do it for other languages and groups.

dude i dont think it really matters/is something you should get that worked up about... if people dont want to learn, thats their problem, it doesnt affect you... its not like youre the one who cant understand people when theyre talking to you... i agree with urban...

If I was working in a foreign country with all english people don`t you think i`d speak english to them regardless of where I was?

Why should they all speak english to each other just to accomodate you?

another way to respect our culture and our country is to come to this country LEGALLY damnit.....all the f.uckin immigrants that arent even citizens..there gettin drivers lisences and our jobs. i say find every illegal immigrant and shove thier assees back over the border
