Is MB getting less active or am I just becoming familiar with everyone here?
I've been feeling like I've been seeing fewer and fewer new threads, which makes me feel like the site is losing steam, but that could just be because I haven't been as focused on the site for a while or perhaps I am just seeing more familiar faces and the "world" of the site is getting smaller. Let me know which you think it is.

Forums have been slowly dying for like a decade. I'd still rather post here than a truly active forum tbh. Posting in those places is like peeing in the ocean.
|
^that. Also it's actually a miracle that this forum manages to stay afloat. It's tough to get them going from the get go and to keep them going takes a lot of time and effort. On the contrary, this forum also has been around a very long time so the continuous longevity isn't too surprising considering. But yeah, forums as a medium are getting tougher and tougher to keep alive. MB is just a huge exception. Even AllMetalForums lasted a long time and if you think this place is bad, you should've seen that place in its prime.

This has been a complaint for as long as I've been here. We've definitely been seeing less new (active) posters in the past year or so though. Probably Trump's fault. We have accumulated some regulars in that time at least. Due to the general irrelevance of non-Reddit forums to the internet at large these days, I think that it will go in the same direction unless we create another element of MB to attract new users. A most mentioned albums by year or something like that. For what it is I think we're doing well though.

how dare you besmirch the divine legend of AMF
|
I'm doing my best to keep things going, with the Bowie Classics and now Cure Classics threads, and the Metal Classics one, as well as the Album Club, which is still going despite your deserting it, Mr. TLP! :nono:
It's all about people taking the time and interest to participate in threads as well as opening them. Sometimes I feel even my efforts are a waste of time, when people don't get involved in the threads I make, but by and large, I think most people are making an effort. Comes and goes, of course. People get interested, lose interest. Sometimes it's hard even for me to keep the interest. That's a lot of instances of the word interest, isn't it? Interesting. |
I appreciate the fact that this community is very tight-knit, that is definitely certain. That said, one of the things I love about the Internet is that feeling of being a part of "legion". Being one amongst thousands of users all doing the same things. It's the feeling I get from Reddit and Youtube and Twitch. However, this forum is great because I actually really know and interact with people here on a regular basis. I know their likes and dislikes, and I know where they like to hang out. So whether or not this forum is dying is not a judgement to me but more of an acknowledgement (wow I spelt that correctly first try). The quick response here is actually quite a lot of reassurance though.

If worse comes to worse then we can always infiltrate the Metal Archives forum and start countless threads about nu metal and metalcore.

A-m-f! A-m-f!

What actually is AMF

A-M-F!

Did that die? because I can't find it anywhere.
|
There are smaller, slower moving subreddits for music out there that are pretty tight knit, like r/letstalkmusic.
|
I initially read that as "let's stalk music".
|
You guys would be great in our Album Discussion Club.
|
I would also say (and this isn't a criticism: I know much of what you're talking about comes from the slowdown on your Rock Survivor threads) that if you involve yourself more you'll see there is still quite a lot going on. Some threads thrive, some die, but one thing is always constant, and always will be: my terrible dad jokes. Surely those at least at worth hanging around for?
Hello? HELLO???? |
I may check it out. Also, I love finding gems like this site: GNOSIS: Welcome!
It's essentially self-made VIPs premake RYM with a more objective rating system. EDIT- Troll is only funny when he's not trying to be. |
Too bad the mods are cracking down. I'm sure the late night, drunken rows would have drawn in new members eventually.

Y'all can still row under the influence. ****, I encourage it. Just don't be a bunch of insecure bitches when you do it.

It would be cool if there was a way to tag other members in a post. Like, if you think they would be interested in it, you could tag them so they would be alerted to it. Or if you are talking about someone in a post, it would alert them.

Amf was my first forum and I can never forget.
RIP Ricochet |
I’m not interested in new blood unless that person knows enough about music to be worth a ****. A new poster who can’t teach me anything is a net minus.
This is the only forum or social media outlet I use. I hate even trying to read reddit. |

Good ol' IAmAlejo as well. Anither OG admin. He has had Muck Fusic as his user title for as long as this site has been around.

Ooh wow another gem. Aah daydreaming about people you don't know who posted regularly on a forum you're on ten years ago. Btw throwback to your life ten years ago. |
I'd also like to point out that a lot of the discussion seems to take place in the journals nowadays, which is crazy since the journal section used to be dead. I agree that the music discussion is very minimal, but the community here is awesome enough to the point that whatever we talk about, it can be fun. I would go as far to say that the community here that we have is far more important to keep around over making sure we always talk about music. Yes, it is a music forum, but there's a reason we have other sub forums.
So...I dont necessarily agree that this site has lot steam. I just think we're becoming more of a general discussion forum, which I'm totally fine with. |
