The ability to write in a basic white people sense doesn't really accomplish anything but be able to write in a way that make peoples think that you can write like the middle class, which is a pretty easy thing to do and communicates your ability to imitate normalcy in written form without any actual skill or intelligence being communicated.

E.G:in Spanish, the verb for taking an exam is presentar, so natually every student says, "I'm presenting an exam." I know we’re on the same page so I’m not trying to school you but I still want to point out that yes if you were raised white middle class or higher that’s all you ever heard so of course. But for black kids from the projects they have to learn a new dialect from scratch. Ultimately the only course of action is to accomadate varying dialects without discrimination because the other two choices are linuisticide or perpetual headstarts for whitey.

Yeah of course, but what are telling young black kids? The only way for anything intelligent to happen is to tell young black kids something to make them care. Oh hey that's not happening cause they're a part of a cultural thing that doesn't give a flying **** about middle class white grammar rules.

I mean what is the solution? There is no solution. They don't care, the middle class who are supposed to be "uplifting" them don't care. It's just groups of people passing in the night with supposed interests intersecting who are told they are in the same boat but don't really feel that boat in any meaningful way.

It’s not my job anymore, thankfully. The black kids already had language for it: “talk white” and “write white”. Some of the black kids wanted higher common core scores to get out of remedial double block reading. Some of them had very gentle dispositions that made the more raucous “ghetto” and “bump” classes less to their liking. I just said if you want to get higher tests scores and take advanced classes you have to “write white” on the standardized testing. If you want I can help you with that. If they were like “ok” I corrected their written assignments to match their language with the oppressive power structure. If they were ambivalent about it I let them write however they wrote.
