Permabanned Members With High Post Counts
 

Recently I’ve been using the search function a lot especially before posting record reviews because I want to see what’s already been said about the band I’m writing about. Two things I’ve noticed is there are many former members with great taste who no longer post here. And another is I often see people with thousands of posts who with disabled accounts (again often with great taste in music).

Why was there so much banhammering back in the day?

I dunno but banning should be a real last resort imo.

There are guys on here who would have been perma'd in the past (in my time on here).

It's kind of hard to say in those cases, since those bans were predicated on specific events and multiple temp bans that often happened widely apart and are difficult to assess years after the fact. The only two I can think of in all my time are Sansa and JWB. JWB was always pushing the limits, and after his, I believe, second ban kind of went all in and clearly didn't give a **** about saying whatever could get him banned. He definitely brought it on himself and never even really posted much about music, so it was clearly a case of banning a troll.

Sansa was a very longtime member who just had a cracked out personality where she would occasionally just lose the plot and go on abusive screeds for a few days or a week or whatever, and sometimes she went hella far. She got a lot of chances, but she just had too many one-offs that she got banned for and finally got that one last ban. She could be a legit contributing member, but to keep her indefinitely would definitely have been a sign that the mods were simply not going to perma ban members with "tenure".

The truly fascist mods of yore... God bless them.

Any good Sansa freakouts you could recommend to look up?

Not really. They were interspersed too far apart for me to look them up and it's been so long that I don't really remember specific events. I know the last was an attack on Roxy basically just for being a conservative, but that was in the shoutbox so it's gone. You'd have to comb through her posts one by one to actually find anything, but I guess if you were dedicated you could check her posts in political threads or anything that might involve feminism. She was RRRREEEEAAAALLLL big on that ****. Too bad you can't cross search for posts made by two members in close proximity, cause I know she despised Trollheart and had at least one really good breakdown about him.

Enough time has gone to give our banned forumistas a second chance. We all make mistakes.

As far as I've ever seen in my time here, no. The only time I've heard Advameg taking an interest in us was when a troll member kept reporting us to Google over nude boob pics in the Snog, Shag, Marry, or Avoid thread and Google told us to cease and desist or they'd take us off their front page for "music forum" searches.

We can't even get Advameg to respond to requests for new emoticons. They don't care in the slightest unless their bottom line is threatened. Why do you think the admins (Yac is the only admin we ever see ever) don't give a **** about our nonsense for the most part? Their bosses just aren't arsed.

Because [people] like UrbanHatemonger were mods. Also, mods were lax when it came to letting things slide, but used it as ammo to ban in the future when personal stuff came up with other members.

If you log out and look around they have a bunch of ads on here.

But why is it, even with really obscure bands with a tiny web presence it seems like reviews written here never appear in google searches? It’ll show their Bandcamp page and maybe one stray write up or a mention on discogs but nothing from here.

If I run the number model of my washing machine I can find discussions on forums about why the water isn’t draining or whatever...

God I can't even remember what thread it was in. Batty probably knows. My god it was funny and a little sad. The guy got really pissed off at Batty.

No idea how to find that, but it was some joke post I made berating the admins who never post and some guy responded that the next time the site was down he'd just ignore it and crack open a beer or something. Was a nice burn.

I honestly have no idea if he was mad cause that was the only time I ever saw him post. Maybe he was just going along with the joke or was just being autistic. Dunno. Probably autistic.

I've been banned countless times. I used to be a douche, especially when I first joined and didn't know internet etiquette.

I had a go, looking at search terms like "network engineer", "admin", "server", but no luck, sorry. It could be buried in the middle of some ordinary thread, like "Your Day" or something. I ain't going through thousands of pages to try to find it. [MERIT], maybe you can take a crack at it? You're good at tracking things down, I'm told?
