What was the most recent thing you broke?

Robbing shamelessly from Dude111's idea, let's hear it. What was the last thing you stepped on, smashed against the wall, dropped down the toilet, ran over with your car etc and how important was/is it to you? Was it yours? Did you repair or replace it? Can it be repaired or replaced? Did you break something of someone else's and keep quiet about it?

Personally, for me, it was a camcorder I got from the office as a going-away (and stay away!) present. It fell on the ground and now there's a message "HDD Failure" flashing when I try to activate it. I reckon I may be able to fix it (if so, I'll post in Dude's thread later) as I feel all that's happened is that the HDD has come loose - like, whatever tiny ribbon cables or whatever hold it in place have become detached - but the screws are too small for any of my screwdrivers. Bought a new set at the weekend but haven't yet got around to seeing if I can open it. We'll see how it goes: can't make it any worse anyway, right?

Joke's on you: I don't have one. :D

My PC speakers this Saturday. I played some bassy music and one speaker started rattling. Then I bought new ones. Probably just coincidence, but it felt like I broke it with my music.

All 2 or 3 of em. They deserved it anyway. Slackers.

Whoa! Ya had me there for a second.

I've tried flats, too dull for my liking. I tried Elixers, too bright. I always go back to Nickel 10's.

I tend to agree on the dullness but considering I primarily play bass, play to hard for my own good and have no money, they save me a fortune on strings.

Tbf to em though they beat the brightness of a fresh pair of rounds imo.
I end up just using the Carol Kaye muting technique with a piece of felt on the bridge until the strings are broken in a bit.

Are you talking about bass strings? I've never broken a bass string. Actually, the two basses I own have the same strings on as when I bought em, many years ago. I'm kinda lazy like that. I have a few recordings where I didn't change strings on my guitar before hand and when I listen back I kinda cringe, since they were just crusty wires at the time.

I am yeah, I've broken a few strings before (mainly the G) and they're way too much for me to buy any new sets so I mainly just stick with the flats atm.

Plankton 03-20-2018 07:37 AM

Sounds like a lotta slapping and pop on that G. Nice.

That didn't make any sense at all did it. I broke my brain.

Chiomara 03-20-2018 02:08 PM

Broke a necklace chain. It had gotten tangled in my hair and was wrapped around my neck a bit too tightly as a result, so I just tore it off and threw it somewhere in my room.

Lisnaholic 03-20-2018 02:49 PM

^ Hey! Watch that temper, Chiomara ;)

Not sure if it was exactly the last thing, but this has happened so often that it feels like it: I'm talking about those fragile plastic "hinges" that stick out top and bottom of a cd case. It bugs me that with so many of my cds, I can no longer open the case like a book, instead the two bits come apart in my hands with a faint sound of "Annoying, isn't it?"

Neapolitan 03-20-2018 07:09 PM

What was the most recent thing you broke?

1. Wind.

2. Trollheart's record for the world's worst dad joke.

Dude111 03-22-2018 05:53 AM

I last spilled a glass of chocolate Milk BY ACCIDENT on my desk and it hit a couple of my 8 tracks and VHS tapes...... I thankfully didnt really care for the 2 it hit so I broke them totally and threw them away..... (They were wet on the tape from the milk and I didnt wanna put that in my VCR or 8 track player)

Gotta be more careful if im gonna have drinks @ the desk I guess!!

Dude111 03-22-2018 06:42 AM

Akai 03-22-2018 07:09 AM

Hello? Hello? Hello? Yes, this is the twenty-first century calling: are we getting through?

Frownland 03-22-2018 06:52 PM

TBH I doubt it was an accident. I smell insurance fraud.

Dude111 03-23-2018 05:54 AM

No no it was indeed an accident frown........... I moved alot of my tapes off the desk!!

Over a month later you say that's a good idea? Just as well you're not waiting for Neapolitan (or anyone) to advise you which wire to cut on the bomb!
