if you're in favour of repealing that's whatever but pls present a better argument than "these laws didnt always exist"

The argument isn't that "these laws didn't always exist" over simplifying ****. The argument is what changed from back then to now? What dire change did these laws make that you actually noticed? I bet you didn't even know they existed until this hysteria.

I don't care, personally I'm in favor of keeping them, I just think that the fear mongering is an overreaction to something that probably won't have much impact anyways. It's almost very reminiscent to those anti piracy laws being passed way back in 2011 where everybody got their panties in a bunch and here we are with nothing changed still stealing most of our music. Like, calm the **** down. Jesus Christ people are like a bunch of horrified sheep being herded around at the amusement of the shepherd.

The main difference in the two scenarios is that there's always been anti-piracy laws, and people were always going go pirate music. If anything, this is significantly worse for people who do pirate music than any anti-piracy law could ever be, because Comcast could basically decide that TPB or Demonoid isn't part of our network.

I think this is more about precedent than anything else, and the repeal is a big loss because of that. On the positive side, I think that there will be some companies that work around it, but still I think we should be working towards socializing the internet like they do in Europe instead of further privatizing it.

Speak for yourself. Irish ISPs banned access to torrent sites, and now it's virtually impossible to get near any of them, even with special software. It just doesn't happen. We are the Torrentless Island.

Why fix what isn't broken? I never heard an end-user complaining that the internet was too egalitarian, that why isn't somebody controlling my internet-traffic speed to his own advantage. So why does the Republican party want to change what was working fine? Given that their motivation is usually "screw the regular people so that the rich can get richer" (as per their tax and health policies), I think American internet users have good cause to be angry and nervous.

It may be a nice metaphor to talk about "a bunch of horrified sheep", but imo it's a cheap shot on Lucem Ferre's part to use that description for a ground-swell of justified concern about what will happen to the internet. And if, in the end, Lucem is proved right and the answer is "nothing much will change", well that takes us right back to the question I started this post with.

Well, all I can say it's the Americans' (well, white Americans anyway) own fault. Time and time again they keep voting in the people most likely to screw them over because they don't like non-whites or whatever, and then they wonder why they keep getting screwed. Nothing will change until we Americans get wise like Hollywood (Hah!) always says we do.


The good news at least is it will be a while (maybe even years) before the new rules kick in. The bad news is, unless the Democrats have retaken the Government again, we may not even know what hit us when it happens.

i think you're misinformed on the issue at hand here. we'll talk again when your ISP starts hard capping your speed and selling internet access to you like cable packages. the issue has been blown up to some extent of course, but that doesn't mean it won't have a big impact moving forward.
