Their use isn't nearly as ubiquitous in Germany (probably Europe in general) as it is in the US.

I didn't know you were German.

Sieg Heil!

Sounds nice. Not even debit cards?

I don't know about Germany but here we use the c/c a whole hell of a lot. Even debit cards, given out by the banks, have now the VISA logo and are accepted as credit cards, the only differences being you don't get credit (duh) so can only use what's in your bank account and, of course, you get no bills. It's become almost alien to me now to fish out money from my pocket rather than pop in the credit card or swipe it at the touch panel, in fact, if I find a shop that doesn't take credit cards I'm like

Same. It hasn't helped my account balance any though.

It actually makes it worse, tbh. When you know how much you have in your pocket, as in, when you had to take it out of the bank, you tend not to overspend, whereas with a c/c, even if I have enough in the account I'm still thinking "Man I hope this doesn't reject!" I'll do a quick calc in my head as to how much money should be there, but I don't check my bank a/c half as often as I should, which has in fact resulted in my being the victim of c/c fraud on three separate but non-consecutive occasions.

Thankfully with a debit card I just get declined and have to face thirty seconds of silent judgement while I'm like, "I should have more on there! I don't even know what happened!"

The worst is when they ask you "do you want to try another card?" NO I ****ING DON'T! You know full well this decline means I have not enough money in my account, and do I look like the sort of person who would have money stashed away in another one? **** you: you just want me to be more embarrassed than I already am!

And then, the walk of shame to put back that which you can not now afford...
