When my aunt from Connecticut visited north Carolina and we went to the mountains she wanted us to find some out of the way bluegrass joint. She has no genuine interest in bluegrass. It was merely to try and feel cultured. It's typical behavior among the older NPR type crowd.

Unless I knew someone in the area who would know about that kind of thing I'd just assume I was throwing a pin and a tail in the hopes that a donkey was even there.

No music club in the world is any better or worse than the band on stage

(That’s a little overstated but 95% true)

That's generally true but a venue with good sound and sound guy can really elevate a good performance to greatness. Also places that are too big to see the performers from 50% of the venue suck.

I'd say it's a rule that's true like 75% of the time. Your venue ain't **** if you don't have good artists, even if the space has best acoustics in the game.

like I said. Upper middle class, liberal suburban white woman who is from the suburbs of NYC(Bergen county Jersey) and lives in Connecticut. That describes the vast majority of my relatives minus living in Connecticut. My parents both came from middle class backgrounds they just made bad decisions in life and thus we ended up poor.
