I swear, I wouldn't have been able to choke it down without some kind of steak sauce. My jaw felt like it ran a marathon when I finished her steaks.

As for ketchup - I love it. Just not on steaks. Love dipping my fries into ketchup. Love ketchup and mayo on burgers (sometimes bbq sauce). I put on it on my eggs too, oh yah - and my meatloaf. And ****, I'll even put it on my shepherd's pies and my meat pies as well. Love that ****.

Now anything with coconut - that's a hate train I'm willing to ride on. **** coconut - tastes nasty and the texture is downright awful.

Didn't see this before my post. Is putting ketchup on Shepherd's pie a New England thing?
ketchup sucks and coconut is good. And ketchup on shepard's pie??? I don't know any of you people.

I can tolerate it on meat loaf but it's better with gravy.

Granted - I don't always have ketchup on shepherd's pie. As I've gotten older, I find that I somewhat prefer dousing it with large amounts of salt and pepper as I eat it.

I forget if it was Goofle11 or Urbs I was talking to about Shepherd's pie but he said that Shepherd's Pie isn't what Americans consider it - mash potatoes on ground beef. He said Shepherd's Pie is really mash potatoes on mutton. He called the US version Yeoman pie or Cottage pie or something like that. So it really isn't like pouring ketchup on mutton. :/

If she cooked most of her meat like that, it's no wonder. I hope you cook her a good steak once in a while to show her how it's done.

That was my reaction, as well.

I can understand a bit of salt and/or black pepper. Maybe a spot of HP Sauce, if you must, but ketchup?

Mother never learned about seasoning or marinade or anything to do with meat beyond the bare minimum. Her favorite thing to cook is gumbo cause she just has to chuck a bunch of **** in a pot and walk away. And I've never cooked her a meal cause I'm even worse a cook and we only eat together for holidays with the rest of the family.

If it's beef it's cottage pie. Shepherds pie uses lamb yes.

Ketchup on cottage pie isn't any better though

Wait you're serious? If someone cooked you a good ribeye steak medium rare you're dipping that **** in ketchup? You're the ultimate manboy, Charles. Just stick to chicken nuggets if that's how you treat a good steak smh.
