It's quite the coincidence that you bring this up. Yesterday, I posted this up for the masses of the local disc golf scene to visually consume, and to lose themselves in exquisite 'virtual' landscape porn which surrounds this amazing disc golf course. ^ That is so beautiful and very clever Plankton! It has some nice details that I'm not going to spoil by mentioning. I was also pleased to be able to recognise the course from photos you've put here before, so I'm guessing Dellwood must be a real favourite course of yours.

My most adventurous trip was to spend 3 months in Morocco, including taking the Marrakesh Express of C,S & N fame. Most off-grid places we got to: (i) Amizmiz, (ii) Diabet, a small village only accessed by walking along the coast from the city of Essaouira, photo:-

I used to be extremely fascinated with Algeria.

I debated going to Morocco, Spain, and Algeria instead of the subcontinent but Spain was too expensive and Algeria was too dangerous.

Yes, all the Arab world looks interesting to me, OH.
Luckily, 45 years ago there was less Arab/West hostility than today. Morocco was pretty safe, and so different from Europe. We had some probs but never physical violence. If anything, on the contrary; we were shown hospitality so generous that we were suspicious. I remember me and my pal sitting in the back of the car of some guy we'd only just met, as he'd insisted we see his house. We were whispering, "Why are we doing this? We have no idea where we are. He could kill us!" In fact, we spent a very polite and civilised evening with him and his girlfriend.

This image turns up on tv a lot lately, and for me the headquarters building of the WHO looks depressing enough of itself, even without their sobering prognostications:

The WHO are obviously busy with other things right now, but I wonder what they were thinking when they signed off on this drab building? The end facade looks like one of those tenement blocks that has airconditioning units hanging out the windows, held in place by each tenant's bit of cheap metalwork.

Worse though, for me, is the way the architect has so followed the orthodoxy of the Modern Movement regarding colour. For decades, architects were indoctrinated with the idea that applied colour was some bourgoise frivolity to be spurned. This became a dangerously popular notion because it saved money and the need to think about incorporating colour into a design. The grim results of that idea still blights most modern cities - and this WHO building, where the colours are limited to what looks like self-finished concrete (=grey) and self-finished aluminium (=grey). Even something whose function is purely ornamental (the vertical fins on the building to the right) just adds, imo, to the overall impression of cheap industrial tat.

That building definitely has a stfu and get the **** to work vibe going but I’m not so sure I object to that.

Very interesting post though. I never would’ve even thought about it.

I’m not particularly opinionated about archeticture or interior design but sometimes inside modern hospitals it feels like they’re going for an optimistic vibe and being an endlessly cynical c unt I’m usually thinking oh ffs stop fronting ain’t nobody happy to be here.
