I've never heard used it your way. It it's like **** but with the letters all flipped around.

Yeah, I was a little confused. Thought it was a pet name for Machine at first, but that wouldn't work: "sheen" or "mash" maybe, perhaps even "mac" or at a real stretch something like "hal", but not "ish".

Ish is just a sensored version of shit. You hear it in hip hop all the time when they perform live and have to censor themselves for the live broadcast.
