I find the pretentiousness of the format off-putting

I also think the platform gives a false appearance of authority to a lot of bull****

Still it’s case by case but I’m not especially enamored with it

I never felt the pretentiousness of them, and agree with how it can give any wonky a platform for somewhat authority. I've learned a lot through ted talks though because they are most of the time individuals smarter than I am :)

Attending a TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference can be a potentially life changing event, as you will be able to listen, share, and interact with great thinkers from all over the world in a variety of fields. If you have $5,000 USD budget and want to experience a large event, you can send in a written application to attend a TED Conference. If you are more budget conscious and prefer a local experience, you can get tickets to a TEDx Event in your area. Whichever type you choose, you can have a full TED Talk experience in just a few steps and find out first hand what all the fuss is about

I learn a lot from everyone here but you mainly help the most Occulthawk https://boxden.com/smilies/oWow8nl.png

OccultHawk 08-11-2019 05:24 PM

Thanks

On the other hand they do provide all their content for free online.

That is really cool. Especially now that so many podcasts want extra for premium content these days.

Governments across the world are increasingly adopting powerful, often flawed technology, enabling police to track you by your face. Kade Crockford, Director of the Technology for Liberty Program at the ACLU, explains why we can't let that happen if we want to protect our free and open society. Kade Crockford is the director of the Technology for Liberty Program at the ACLU of Massachusetts. Kade writes, researches, organizes, lobbies, and advocates to ensure privacy and civil liberties law keeps pace with new technologies, with a focus on how systems of surveillance and control impact not just society in general, but also their primary targets: people of color, Muslims, immigrants, and dissidents. What if we could harness the ocean's movement to protect coastal communities from rising sea levels? Designer and TED Fellow Skylar Tibbits shows how his lab is creating a dynamic, adaptable system of underwater structures that uses energy from ocean waves to accumulate sand and restore eroding shorelines -- working with the forces of nature to build rather than destroy.

TEDx Talks

Aug 17, 2020

Internet came with the promise of connecting humanity but it's turning into an uncontrolled beast. With the rising fake news, it's so easy to instigate people and create mass uprisings. How can we tackle this? Is it possible to separate facts from fiction? Mina Soltangheis has figured out the answer. She is a Computer Scientist and a creative technologist. With a focus on machine learning and human learning, Mina is passionate about exploring the intersection of humanity and technology. As a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and SFU SIAT (Canada), she built data-driven tools to understand how digital media shapes human behavior and choice.

She is the Chief Innovation Officer at Wondeur Ai, a Canada-based Artificial Intelligence company. As a leader of Research and Development and innovation, she is dedicated to evolving personalization strategy and developing data ecosystems that are both human-centric and ethical by design.

She applies machine learning and data visualization techniques to understand human behavior in digital games to support children’s learning process at scale. Her focus right now is to enable children to become critical thinkers so that they can thrive in the 21st century.
