Are We Welcoming?

I've pondered this question a few times about this forum specifically, and while I also am part of the problem, I wonder if we're really as openly welcoming to this forum as we can be. I understand that we all love a bit of sarcastic humor here and there, but we've also had a fair share of people leave because of that, Jguy and mordwyr for instance. Maybe for the better, or worse. I really don't know.

I'm not saying anything needs to change because I ****ing love it here, but I often wonder what it must be like to register on your first day and be thrown into the mix with claws already ready to go.

What do you guys think?

Disclaimer: I'm saying again that I don't want things to change, I just feel like it'd be good to get some perspective from the newer crowd and ask if they felt welcomed when they started.

Feel free to close this if the discussion gets heated, as I really don't want it to get heated or debated.

If you guys (blank, Chula, anyone else who does it) could stop asking girl members to post pictures of themselves it would probably help.

I mean, I know it's a joke, but like...

I remember back when I first joined there was a small kerfuffle over this issue and the general consensus was that noobs should not be harassed until you know they're down with being harassed.

Ya, I've only ever seen blank & Chula do it, I think. It just furthers the idea that we're all anti-social nerds.

This place is uber male dominated. I'm sure it doesn't take long for new female members to realize that. They can either learn to hang with that, and enjoy the extra attention and flattery, or leave. I have only the highest respect for women. I've made that clear in my many attempts to explain why I vote the way I do.

Me asking for a picture is just harmless fun. Hell, I'm old enough to be Splishy's grandfather for christ sakes.
