Yeah. Their sign says "Steaks + Soda Shop." In these parts Steaks is short for Cheesesteaks, which can be wit Provalone, American cheese or Cheese Whiz. Also plain Steak sandwiches with no cheese.

Today, June 21st is National Selfie Day

I heard on the news that Hawaiian authorities gave an official warning not to take a selfie with a molten lava. There are people who actually fail to see the danger in that?

Please don’t take selfies with the deadly molten lava, Hawaii authorities ask

I don't listen to radio anymore, or even listen to radio streaming online for that matter. I don't recall ever listening to a radio station that dedicated itself to a sing Jazz artist for one day. However, I do remember a Beatles A to Z weekend, whey they play every Beatle song over the course of a weekend. I'm sure there was more than one radio station in my area that did that. And I think the Beatles are the only band that I had the opportunity to hear every song in their discography played on the radio. I really can not say that for any other band or artist. I'm not sure if there is a specific weekend designated for that. However there is Beatles Day on July 10th, and Global Beatles Day on June 25th, which is coming up in four days!

Pretty soon it's gonna be Global Beatles Remembrance Day.

It’s a really elite and traditional club. I double checked and miles isn’t in it.

You have to be on the Mount Rushmore of swing bop or free and that’s it. Introducing an instrument won’t do it and fusion is no can do.

It was a guitar player, Charlie Christian, that help carve out Mount Rushmore of Bebop. I know at the end of his career Wes was playing Jazz covers of mainstream songs, but he started out doing Bebop and Hardbop. Wes (as well as Barney Kessel) are considered the successor to Charlie Christian. Barney Kessel knew Ornette Coleman, before he (OC) was ever allowed on stage to play and OC made the list.

edit: I don't care about WKCR's elitism, it's jftr.

That’s cool.

I’m more explaining it than defending it (not that I think you need it explained).

Some of the expert DJ’s they get on those birthday broadcasts can teach you a thing or two whatever your opinion.

They’re definitely not going to bump Ornette for a guitar player.

I love and respect Charlie Christian but I think claims he was helped carve out bebop as a genre are exaggerated

And Barney Kessel was cool but you know...
