Default The Salvador Dali Appreciation Thread

Because he is the absolute shit and I'm tired of finding an appropriate thread to share Daliisms in.

I saw on the Antique Road Show a book that made up of a bunch of his prints, and the appraiser said that it wasn't worth much because his work wasn't appreciated much these days. Usually I am floored whenever some item is estimated to fetch six, seven figures at an auction, but that time I was surprised how low it was appraised.

This is one my favorite, maybe because I am a procrastinator and have no sense of time.

I have a few Alice in Wonderland books because of the art work. I would love to own one that had his artwork.

There's a couple of his paintings in some museums in SF. Pretty rad in person, no comparison on screen or page. Those brush strokes though.

I recently purchased a Dali themed clock. I know it's hard to see in this pic. I'll try to get a better one when I get home... if I remember.

I once laid claim to a Dali rarity - a copy of the limited edition (and humorously ill-fated) opéra-poème, Être Dieu.

Wiki sez:

Quote:
Être Dieu: opéra-poème, audiovisuel et cathare en six parties (French for "Being God: a Cathar Audiovisual Opera-Poem in Six Parts") is a self-proclaimed "opera-poem" written by Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, based on a libretto by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán with music by French avant-garde musician Igor Wakhévitch. It was originally published in 1985.

The six-part work features Dalí as God, Brigitte Bardot as an artichoke and Catherine the Great and Marilyn Monroe do a striptease. It has been published in an extremely rare 3 LP box-set by a Spanish label. It was re-released in a regular 3CD box published by German-label Eurostar who subsequently went out of business, and there are few-to-no known performances of the work. Dalí painted "Self-Portrait" (1972) to mark the composition of the opera, which was later auctioned by the United States Customs Service after being seized after Colombian drug lords tried to use the painting to launder money.
I sadly had to part with it for turntable repair monies, but I ripped the discs and took a few snapshots before sending it off.

Here are my images of the set.
