We can spend all day being nice and trying to understand or giving in to the idea that this person doesn't want to be called this or that but at what point is anybody taking the time to understand why somebody would have a problem with that? You're trying to force your perception of who you are onto others and at that point you're just begging others to validate your identity for you. You can't do that. It's like, okay, you identify as a male even though you have the body of a female. You can do that. That's fine. But why do I have to identify you as something I don't see you as. You can see me as a 'harry ****' for that but I don't see me as a harry ****. I personally don't see the difference between race identity and gender identity either. Both race and gender have their own cultures. And to be more specific each races gender has it's own culture. If you could point out an actual difference go ahead. I don't see one.

Edit: It's not like I go out of my way to harass these people and I'll typically call them what ever but at some point it starts to bother me. Like, am I really being open minded and non bigoted or am I just feeding into somebody's delusion?
"My name is James."
"Nah you're more of a Bill imma call you Bill."
"You're a retard."

Kinda similar to that.
