Why does there seem to be a stigma attached to advocate for Men's Rights?

It's funny you say that, just last night I got into a heated argument with my sister at a family meal. She brought up cultural appropriation and I rolled my eyes so hard I could see the inside of my skull.

The argument started because at her school (she's an elementary school teacher) they had a vote for a mascot. I can't remember the finalists, but one of the options was "the Warriors" which was then scrapped because apparently that makes me people think of Indians which in turn is culutural appropriation. She actually tried to draw a comparison from this to wearing black face.

With that being said,

I think not wearing black face comes down to whether or not you're a douchebag or not, it has nothing to do with "appropriating culture." I believe in complete freedom. If you want to dress up like a Native American for Halloween, go for it. If you want to sit around and watch anime all the time and cosplay in public, do ya thang bruv.

Idk really. I mean I think if the group is actually against the thing or it has implications of racism/ethnicism it should be banned, but with the case of like the "Redskins" thing, 9/10 Native Americans don't even give a **** and it was mostly something perpetuated by whites to change. As for the weab thing, regardless of whether it's cultural appropriation or not it's just ****in unneeded. C'mon now.

But why? It doesn't affect you and your everyday life. Like I said, let people do what they want.

I'm all about respecting people and their wishes, but I also don't believe that cultural appropriation has any sort of clear protocol. Why are foods, music, art, and words fine to appropriate, but clothing and symbols are off-limits? Further, culture is a construct, an idea, and it's not possible to control the spread or evolution of ideas. Culture is dynamic by its very nature, and wherever two cultures meet, there's going to be merging and trading of ideas. It's impossible to avoid, and with more cultural connections than ever right now, it blows my mind how people can expect all ideas to remain off-limits.
