I understand that, but we aren't talking about implementation, we are talking about if it is or is not a violation of equal rights. Or that's what I thought we were talking about.
I also think it arguably has less to do with denying parenting decisions and more to do the the overstepping of religion. I'd argue that if female genital mutilation was part of our religious standards it'd be legal here. |

I agree with this.

I don't remember my circumcision. I'm so glad my parents decided to go that route. It's never hindered my sexual pleasure a single bit. I also enjoy the clean hoody look.
Female genital mutilation is done for the specific reason of limiting a woman's ability to enjoy sex when the come of age for religious reasons as well as a male's dominance over the females in general. Equating the two is pretty ****ing stupid and a terrible way to try and make the point some of you are trying to make.

But female circumsition is more severe since the consequences are life-long.

No one is equating the two except by saying they both violate human rights. Or are you going to sit here and argue with me that murder and speeding are not both breaking the law?

Compare the different procedures. Which one is more harmful? I think the answer is obvious. Why is it wrong to bring that up?

Obviously it's completely hypothetical, but I don't think it would be. I think given the other kinds of things our societies have gone on to achieve regarding rights and equality I think it would have been outlawed regardless of religious connotations.
But that comes from the standpoint that we care more about the health and safety of women than men.
