In a life or death situation, instinct can be useful, like running away from a snake or not liking it when you are on fire. But do we really understand instinct and why we have those instincts? Humans hate change, so they will use any means and do incredibly impressive mental gymnastics to avoid succumbing to it. What you might see as an "instinct" could really just be your close mindedness trying to camouflage itself as something rational.

For example, you mentioned heroin as something that you instinctually stay away from. That's bull****. You've seen the negative effects of heroin through the media or maybe even your personal life and built your opinion of using heroin around that. That in itself is a form of logic. If it was instinctual, you would recoil at the sight of heroin and humans wouldn't be so susceptible to becoming addicted to it, or something along those lines.

I'm more than willing to be humbled.

Why isn't fear of snakes logical? Would I fear a snake if I didn't know what it was?

That was an example of when instinct is logical in terms of survival.

I like to mix it up. Heroin was a bad example. My instincts will tell me to steer clear of a dude, even though he looks and acts normal. I just sense something off about him, something disturbing. It must be my Native American blood.

You don't think your being illogical? Or close minded?

Like in the sense of some white person steering clear of you?

Nah. I'm white, too. I'm also Native American. I don't judge people on skin color. I just steer clear of people who, according to my instincts, might be bad news for me. It's intuition. I get feelings about people, and then when what I thought comes to pass, my friends be like damn how you know that! And I just shrug.

But I don't know **** about yall, tho. I gotta look somebody in the eye to know. Most people are cool, of course.
