In the last 20 minutes of my shift, someone hit and killed the shop dog with a car while they were leaving the lot behind ours. The driver didn't even stop. Didn't even tap the brake. I'm...so...****ing...pissed...

At the driver or the people who assumed responsibility for the dog?

My dog doesn’t walk around parking lots unless she’s on a leash that I’m holding. I keep her on a leash because her safety is my responsibility.

The driver could’ve stopped but that wouldn’t have unrunovered the dog even if he was real real sorry.

I hope you or someone else got a plate number. Hitting a domestic animal with a vehicle, not reporting it and leaving the scene is an arrestable offense.

If you stop and report it you usually won't be charged and the legal responsibility for the animal will fall on the owner for allowing the animal to run loose.

Hit and run will get you arrested and charged.

Hit and kill a dog with your car with witnesses around, leave the scene without stopping to help and/or report it and you'll find out the hard way how much the cops don't give a ****.

I've heard of instances where police investigated property damage.

They're looking into the security footage. Florida police probably won't care and will them to turn it over to animal control though. An arrest is unlikely, but a hefty fine is pretty plausible for reckless driving in a parking lot.

Why wasn’t the dog leashed or confined?
