“In order to be eligible for FMLA leave, an employee must have been at the business at least 12 months, and worked at least 1,250 hours over the past 12 months, and work at a location where the company employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles.”

This probably doesn’t describe the typical fast food worker’s situation. Also, like you said, it isn’t paid. So a minimum wage worker probably can’t afford to take the time off even if they qualify.

I'm surprised at the negative reaction to [MERIT]'s story. To my mind he is fundamentally in the right: queuing is the fairest system, but it only works if everyone follows the rules, so why not call out the queue jumper? Better, if possible to do it the less aggressive WWWP way, of course, which neatly rallies the support of the whole queue, rather than making it a one-on-one showdown, but in the heat of the moment that kind of nicety can get forgotten, I guess.

I do not know this particular person´s situation, it was just an idea. Can always start a Kickstarter/ help as much as possible with the heavier lifting.
