It was going okay but then I learned the cat shelter I used to volunteer at is closing down.

I did write a bit of an outline for a short story, now I just need an ending.

Other than that I pretty much just sat around.

My bad, from the outside it seemed like you assigned a task to someone who is your bitch and were a little annoyed that they weren't getting around to doing it. Or maybe I'm just reading everything through corporate glasses. That "thanks" at the end of the message is a classic of corporate passive-aggression.
