Today is the Independence Day in Poland, meaning I’m probably stuck at home for the entire day.
You see, there’s at least a couple of things about November 11th that drives me nuts. First: the date is plain dumb. It’s more like the date of the end of WW1, meaning that we’re supposed to celebrate an independence that lasted for 20years, before being invaded once again. I guess it doesn’t matter Anyway, as I don’t really buy into the whole „nationalist” stuff, so even if the date was correct I wouldn’t celebrate it. Still, why the **** november the 11th. Isn’t the first tree elections in 1989 a better date? Or I don’t know, May 9th, as the end of WW2? Second: the ruling party is one of this kind of idiota that say that Poland wasn’t Independent not only during the community rule (up until 1989), but that Poland wasn’t independent before they rose to power (2015). And even know they believe we’re still under the „Evil dominion of the European Union”. So what the **** are they celebrating? Third: And this is the worst out of all the three; sadly ever since the current government is at the power, a lot of people in Poland started showing their true colors. And so, when there was an independence day march in, say 2010, it was fine. There were a lot of people marching through the city, some concert, some speaches, like, normal national celebration. But ever since 2015 it began to change. Currently the „March Of Independence” is a fascist convention, with 100-200k people with torches, flags, and nationalist banners going through Warsaw pretty much destroying everything. I mean, last year they ****ing tore some trees from the ground. And what happened near were I live, was the infamous now „The Battle Of Empik” (Empik is a store with books, movies, papetry, kind of like Fnac or something), during which like 30-40 of these morrons were standing in front of Empik and throwing bricks and flares at the police. A battle ensued, and to be honest the place looks like hell up to this day. But apart from that single event; the Police doesn’t interfere with these marches. It’s a stark contrast to any other manifestations, like the ones „pro-choice” I went to, which even though peaceful, were attacked and disbanded by the police in a matter of an hour or so. It’s all because the rulling party wants to romance the nationalists, because for some time now, that’s the only social group were they can get any support. The rulling party is called „Law and Justice” (that’s not a joke). Anyway, considering the part of town where I live (I’ve got the Constitutional Court, The Ministry of Justice, The Ministry of Education, The ministry of foreign affairs and the Prime ministers headquarters all on the same street), these people are bound to walk right next to my house. I remember being 15-16, and standing on my balcony, watching the hell break lose downstairs, and a guy ****ing shot me in the head with a flair. So i guess I’ve got an entire day to make music and thanking God I’m jot standing in the path of that mayhem. |

So is this a pro-Russian government, anti-Russian government, I mean just what is Poland right now?

The society in overall is very anti-russian. People here are really good at holding grudges against...well...someone who they identify as the „historical agresor”. And the ruling party is very anti-russian, anti-german, anti-EU, anti-anything really. In words at least. They are even against the people who made Poland turn from a Soviet Union Satelite state to the modern, democratic, capitalist one it is now (they call them „traitors”, and so on, even Lech Wałęsa, Peace Nobel Prize Winner, and leader of the movement that made the change happen). At the same time their entire model of running the country is very soviet-era-like. And their international policies make Poland go further away from the EU and much closer to the Russian sphere of interests. It’s absurd really, and I don’t get how is it possible that they are winning elections time and time again. The funny part is their electorate is like 60% people that are over 60 years old, and 70% of their electorate are people who never even entered a college (university). So I guess they win on the resentement these people hold against „the establishement” and „the elites”. Anyway, long story short: They are anti-russian in words, and pro-russian in deeds. |

So is there any bleed over from Ukraine or is all of this craziness purely homegrown?
