In the humanities the situation's not great to put it mildly. If you have a PhD from a good university you can usually find adjunct (i.e. temporary & precarious) work if you apply to a thousand different places.
I once thought this lifestyle held a certain romance but after 2 years away, 1.5 of which coincided with you know what, all I want is to get back home, whatever employment situation awaits me (or rather my partner, whose "turn" to work it would be by then).

It was always bad with me, but between lockdowns, no gym and zoom classes, things got absurd. I manage to roll back to human hours for like two days and then it's back to vampire
On the bright side, triple-vaxxed.
