Saw my parents today, ate pizza. Watched a football game. Worked on my next blog.

So today I went to dollar general and outside there was this old black homeless guy. As I walked towards the entrance he mumbled something. I was like what? And he said I'll holla at you on the way out. I could already tell me was about to try you hit me up for money, I can spot it from a mile away, but he clearly lost confidence in that moment.

I decided in the store I would hit him up with 10$. I never give to the homeless. Ever. I know what they spend it on and I'm too selfish to feed their habit. Plus there's too many of them. I always say no. But I felt generous for whatever reason.

On the way out he starts to approach me with his spiel and I cut him off before he can spit it out and just hand him the money.

I look him square in the eyes. His eyes are so cloudy I dunno how much he even sees. It looks like he already has serious cataracts. I tell him " one day that ****s gonna kill you." He gives me a bunch of BS about how he already drank a bunch of liquor and was just looking for a bite to eat. I knew he was lying cause we were blocks from the soup kitchen where he could easily catch a free meal. He was looking for the next hit. I know the feeling. I wished him good luck and walked away.

A block later another homeless dude came up to me to beg and l told him i got nothing for you. Wasn't his lucky day. Just missed me. It reminded me why I generally don't give money to beggars. It's a cold world.

I generally don't have physical money on me but since if I do it's usually small bills I don't mind giving them out, but I rather like the idea of keeping a pair of gloves in my backpack to give out to a homeless person.

One day a homeless person in the dead of winter asked me for a cigarette and I had to hand it to him cause his fingers were so numb. So I got him some Dollar Store gloves and it just seems like a good thing to have on me if I see a homeless person with no gloves.

I run into them so much I just default to no. As far as cash goes. I don't mind giving a cig. But with cash I know the hustle all to well. I know for a fact where my 10 dollars went today. I knew it when I gave it. It can't be helped. I don't expect to save anybody. You can only give them a momentary boost so you can go on about your day feeling slightly better. Meanwhile they go right on back to business as usual. That's the sad truth of the matter.

I drove a dude who hit me up at a Starbucks parking lot (who looked like he had a major meth issue) to the train station back when I was at university cause he wanted to be with his family over Thanksgiving (or so he told me). He also made me stop at the ATM and lowkey threatened me into giving him almost fifty bucks.

I was poor af for years and years. Never had to lie my ass off in a parking lot to get someone to help me. People are so ****ing stupid, but I hope he was telling me the truth that day and actually wanted to be with his family and didn't just go spend the money he coerced from me on drugs.

College students typically are. I was more overtly liberal back then and would have given the coat off my back to someone with a good enough sob story cause I had my own and easily empathized. But the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
