Get better Streppy!

Exo 12-24-2020 10:21 AM

Just found out one of my moms good friends died.

I don't think my mom knows.

What the f*ck do I do? We're spending Christmas Eve together (We've been tested). Do I let her find out naturally or purposefully ruin her Christmas myself?

Write it on a Christmas card and put it under the tree.

was listening to this:

and discovered that the same tune done in a Major key (D)
sounds almost Christmassy:

I don't know enough to judge confidently, but being told by someone you love and trust is probably the best way to find out, and a natural way too. It depends on how likely she is to find out herself before Christmas, but I think it's better to just tell

That's a hell of a sad and complicated situation though, I'm sorry to hear it

You gotta tell her dude

Sorry you’re in a tough spot

Are you a utilitarian or deontologist?
Only you can answer that.

Man, sorry to hear that.
I guess the point is, if you don't tell her, is she likely to know/suspect that you would have known beforehand? If not, I'd say nothing, then when she finds out you can either a) act surprised and shocked or b) sadly say you knew, but didn't want to ruin her Christmas. It also depends, I think, on how your mother takes bad news generally. Is she pragmatic, the sort of person who prefers to be told, or does she like to avoid it if she can? Only you will know how best to approach her. Sorry, I think you're the only one who can make that decision. Are there others you can pass the news on to, who might be better able to make the decision as to how you should proceed?

You’re not ruining her Christmas. The circumstances are beyond anyone’s control but it’s just not the kind of news you can sit on. Obviously I don’t know the circumstances but there could be funeral arrangements, condolences, someone on the other end having to decide how to tell everyone, your mom knowing you knew... and on and on

I’m sorry man

Frownland 12-24-2020 12:12 PM

Condolences, Exo. You know her better than we do to say for certain (relationships and personalities muddy the waters), but I'm with OH that you should tell her even though it sucks.
