I once had a cashier at Walmart where I gave her a nickel when she thought it was a quarter and when I pointed it out she literally pulled up the calculator on her phone and typed in 25 - 5 = ....

That reminds me. Teachers in school told us we had to learn to do math in our heads cause we wouldn't have calculators outside of a classroom.

The only time I've ever had to worry about math outside of school is counting the money in a drawer before taking the register at a job and my phone is a massive convenience I wouldn't trade faultless head math for.

I've had plenty of jobs where quick mental math is necessary. I mean you could pull out your calculator but that'll just slow you down.

Mental math is fairly easy with small numbers if you use shortcuts
