I liked moby dick, but not that much. I generally don't mind at all when writers go off on a tangent about something but with a few exceptions here and there I didn't find melville's musings very interesting (his descriptions of everything to do with whaling were cool, I mean his more philosophical monologues, those are pretentious but not that insightful). The scene where he describes the first and second and third mate urging on their men during the whale hunt was gorgeous though

I had to read Moby Dick in 11th grade.
Even though I've tried reading it 3-4 times since, I still haven't finished it. I believe my big mistake is always restarting it from the beginning. This last time I tried, I made it all the way to actually seeing Ahab on the ship. |
