Coincidentally Ulysses is on my list of books to read this summer, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for mentioning that course by Hefferman, rostasi, I'll check that out while reading it!

Ulysses has been on my 'to read' list for a long time. I finally finished Moby Dick about two years ago. I can't believe that used to be part of high school curriculums, it's a challenging read.

Melville spent so much time describing every minutiae of the ship and the whale it’s easy to be spacing out when the important stuff happens but MD is a comic book compared to Ulysses.

Do you remember the passage in MD where sharks are following Pequod and biting chunks out of a whale they’ve harpooned but haven’t gotten on board yet and Ahab is yelling at his crew about over cooking the whale meat? He was like, “See how those sharks eat it? That’s how whale should be eaten! You think sharks don’t know how to eat a whale!”

Yes, that is the mistake I was pointing out. "Minutiae" is plural, ""minutia" is singular.

Must have been a pretty impressive detail. Swapping out "every" with "the" would be better.
