Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Bull**** it doesn't. Industrial is probably the second best mix next to hip hop. It's actually harder to find just straight up industrial music with out it being fused with electronic or rock.

Skinny Puppy is pretty much flawless industrial, as is early Swans to a lesser extent.

Heh.

So elph, you're pretty much referring to Throbbing Gristle and NWW? Even though they're the pioneers, I don't think it's fair to think of them as "pure" industrial or anything like that tbh, they're more an extension of modern classical than anything but they're a lot more than that even. They're their own animals that nobody else ever really could imitate, the genre was more of an idea than a sound at that time.

If things didn't change, punk wouldn't have evolved past Woodie Guthrie.

the whole idea is that it isn't Rock music in the traditional sense
Nope. It's more about what music can be and how truly universal musicianship is than about what their music isn't.

I haven't found that applying some drill noises to a conventional rock structure really does it any justice
That's because it doesn't and it doesn't have to. Artists like Slauson Malone/Standing on the Corner are carrying on the spirit of Throbbing Gristle more than the majority of self-proclaimed industrial artists, but that's more about their approach than their sound. It doesn't make an artist like Author and Punisher lose their industrial-ness unless you're just chasing the past.
