hah. to make up for my crappy morning involving inept spanish teachers and the unfortunate switching of class periods
i got to show my music theory teacher up. he's a jazz musician who clams to know tons of common practice theory. but doesnt. anyways...it was this one kid vs the teacher....analysis of a piece of music....and we were arguing about what number the chord was. most people said that it was iii6 (me included) but the teacher claimed it was a V chord. the following chord was a vi and the preceding chord was a I. anyways....he was like "V makes more since because in common practice, which chord is more likely to go to the vi?" and so the kid starts arguing and babbling incoherently all these arguments that proved the guy wrong and finally after having the whole class arguing with him i told everyone to shut up and i was like "Mr. J. in Tonal Harmony, the book says that in common practice a iii goes to a vi, and a V goes to a vii or a I" and after that he tried to make it seem like thats what he'd been saying all along.
