Batty reminds me of the people in my outpatient program who were just in such denial that they aren't special and might be able to get help so they wouldn't hear anything offered to them. They respond to the therapists by describing how the world is just too ****ed up, their situation will never improve, no one understands, etc. etc. They're a dime a dozen and whenever they would start lamenting the therapists would just put their clipboards down and patiently wait for them to finish, while the rest of us rolled our eyes and tuned out because it's just so predictable and after a while pretty pathetic.

Honestly when I see rising suicide rates and rising mass shootings (that are essentially hardcore suicides) I kinda think it's the human race realizing the nihilism of existence and responding accordingly in a sort of Lovecraftian loss of sanity in the face cosmic horror. When I see the majority of the human race around me who don't understand suicide they don't seem to be on a higher level of understanding than their suicidal peers, they just seem to be more cow-like and willing to accept the generic platitudes meant to keep them compliant and productive. I'm really beginning to think that mass suicide by "**** it, launch the nukes" mentality will be the end result of human psychology.
