I still think it's better to have an absent parent than one who actively resents you or shows how much of a burden you are to them.

I agree. Also, it depends on the specific situation: my father left before I was born and I've never had the feeling of being deserted

It certainly can be, but I don't think it's healthy for a kid to have a contract hanging over their head where the mother agreed to this before they were even conceived. If it were me I'd just be like why the **** did you even get in a relationship with such a person? I mean we're not talking about a one night stand. Nobody but crazy weirdos would offer a contract like that to someone they picked up at a bar. This would probably be someone the woman was in some kind of actual relationship with and she's got this connection with someone who'd abandon a kid and put it in writing? Just seems perverse.

Also I was thinking... If you can get a late term abortion no problem then maybe extend it to 3 months after the kid is born. Sort of a free trial type deal.
