We've been trying to buy a house and so far its been a ****ing nightmare
My wife changed her last name after we got married, and apparently that has caused huge issues when it comes to pulling her credit, and obviously we need that to secure pre-approval for the loan amounts that we want. I don't really understand why there's a problem, because I thought that was simply tied to your social security number and DOB, but our lender only pulls an error from all three major credit bureaus regardless. So we're trying to submit documentation to the credit bureaus about the name change, but there are either technical problems or we have to mail it to them which they estimate will take 6-8 weeks That wouldn't be that big of a deal except we want to have the house purchased within a month or so. Our apartment lease ends in late January, and I am really ****ing tired of living in that apartment so we're kind of on a clock here. I genuinely don't know if it will get sorted in time. First world problems overall but it's definitely stressful and the issues don't even make sense. Moral of the story for the ladies: if you want to change your name after getting married, wait to do it until you've sorted out all of your other major upcoming purchases |
That's what she gets for capitulating to the patriarchy.

I didn't push her into the decision in any way, for whatever that's worth. Keeping her last name would have been fine with me. |
Thank the PATRIOT Act. If the debts on your credit report are tied to your maiden name and your current name isn't listed on the report as an alias then lenders can't give you a loan because you're clearly a terrorist hiding their identity. It's arduous but I'd also say that you're better off signing another lease instead of rushing into it.

On the phone with Equifax or whatever because we can't upload a PDF to their system. We get an error saying it exceeds the maximum filesize of 5 MB. The PDF was only a few KB Guy on the phone: "well...KB are bigger than MB" Bitch I'm a ****ing network engineer and you are egregiously wrong Everyone everywhere is incompetent at nearly every step of this process so far. If we had another year to better prepare everything and save more money it would all go a lot smoother. We were just really looking forward to the freedom and financial advantages of owning a house. Just gotta get over the instant gratification thing I guess. |
Gov and finance sites suck ass. Compress it, rename it, do it in a different browser (these places are so slow to change that Internet Explorer will probably work best. I'm not kidding), which I'm sure you've already tried.
