The most upset is an exaggeration, but my teachers weren't happy with it, that used to annoy me. You force me to be there against my will; if I just sit there reading or drawing and I don't disturb the class and everything's fine, why would that be a problem?

I never told a kid to stop reading or not to draw a picture or whatever but the principal or whoever evaluates you might mark you down if even one student is “unengaged”. The whole evaluation process kept getting more and more ridiculous every year and more and more they tightened the noose against allowing the teacher to have any discretion on how to deal with the kids. If you got a bad mark on your evaluation it really put your ass in the hot seat. All that **** got super out of control because of democratic legislation. The republicans were much better about leaving us alone. But anyway when teachers get all up in kid’s **** it’s probably just because they want to pay rent. College profs are more and more treated the same ****ing way. And they have to enforce attendance because the school wants to sell **** to students on campus. Especially food and parking tickets.

Addendum

Most kids who read actually listened to my lectures, anyway. I gave outrageous lectures full of violent digressions and the theme was universally your text book sucks and America sucks. I probably never said one positive thing about America. I also went on diatribes about how things could be.

They still get watched. You probably don’t have many classes with tenured professors.

It was weird. I got away with murder. I thought I’d get complaints but I didn’t. I sat down during the pledge everyday as well. The kids just started ignoring it as well.

Depends on the nature of the tenure. I was tenured but Florida legislature kept chipping at it because they’re dishonest ****s who don’t hold up their end of the bargain and the neolibs led the charge destroying tenure. The republicans didn’t support us but at least they were ambivalent.

Any teacher can give bull**** grades at any level as long as they bump up.
