To say that Republicans have an issue with Hispanic immigrants because they trend blue is ignoring much of the reason they trend blue in the first place.

oh, I'm not ignoring that. They trend blue because the republican party has spent a long time investing in presenting themselves as the party of the white status quo. If they were able to lose that image and it came down to basic issues of value and economic policy, the Democrats would lose a good chunk of the minority vote.

And come the **** on, white Republicans are not nearly as bothered by Hispanics voting Democrat as they are by the existential threat of changing racial demographics.
In part they are worried that the changing demographics will render their party obsolete

Right wing talking head Ann Coulter wrote an entire book on this concern.

Obliviously the bulk of right wing voters are more worried about cultural and racial demographics in general. But the republican party and other right wing political elements tap into this populist sentiment at least in part due to self preservation.

The fact that the supposedly white nationalist and pro Trump organization known as the proud boys have a (largely Hispanic) Miami chapter, the leader of whom has become the chairman of the entire proud boys organization, is a testament to this fact.

Proud boys just brand themselves as white nationalists so that they can more easily achieve their endgame of inciting riots.

How do you defend yourself from the accusation of xenophobia if you don’t support open borders? Unless the border is 100% open like it should be there’s always going to be some sort of Trumpistic policy to defend it.

They're trying to escape that image, which is why they made a Latino the chairman.

They're inciting riots mainly by antagonizing Antifa, who aren't exactly innocent themselves.

They're trying to escape the image without shunning it just like good ole tboy himself. I say let em both go at it then execute the survivors and things will get a bit quieter for about 5 minutes.

Because I think that would be a bad policy. Not because foreigners are bad but because massive relocations of poverty stricken people can be destabilizing. My only contention is that the rate at which you import people matters.

Yes but on a debate stage how can you have moral authority over trump when you’re really just promoting the same policy with softer language?

they're not shining the underlying nationalist sentiments because thats what they actually believe

They are just willing to accept other races that subscribe to those sentiments

The idea of whiteness in this country has a long legacy of expanding. It's not so crazy to think the current conception also won't last.

that's just a reductionist strawman. It's like saying how can you opposed 100% tax rate for all citizens if you support any taxes at all.

Which groups apart from white Hispanics do you see being added to the umbrella?
