That's because you're expecting it to make your balls tingle with the same feather that post-punk uses.

I know it’s not as well established as church and unassailable but balls tingle is also one of my trademark expressions

I love this song, this is about as close to free jazz as i can go But I remember hearing free jazz that sounded so random and disjointed that I found it boring and/or unpleasant |
Free jazz is great but you need to get into it little by little. This cut was my first taste of that stuff back when I was around 14. The way it starts off chill and gradually brings in dissonant elements is interesting.

I know what you mean. Using more or less openness to chance is a technique used in free jazz (and other avant garde music) used mostly to navigate the important terrain of emotional ambiguity but Coltrane doesn’t do that. Even in his most chaotic material he’s still rearranging notes from a central theme or a scale or series of scales that relate to it. There’s always an organized pattern happening. That may be irrelevant if no one else can decipher it but over time the central themes can be identified by an astute listener no matter a far he went. His music is by far the most rewarding listening investment ever offered. |
There's a museum for him not far from here.. I'm gonna go eventually
He grew up in high point which is maybe 20 miles from here |
