I'm required to take a lunch break, but it's unpaid, I can't leave the store, and if there's an issue I have to resolve it anyway

meaning basically everyday they are stealing from me

if I stole $5 a day from them, guys in blue could come and pick me up

if you are off the clock then they can't tell you where to go. You gotta push back sometimes.

If you're doing work on a lunch break then at least in Virginia they have to pay you. I'd check if that's the case in Texas.

In Florida they don’t have to give you a break period. If they want to call it a break when it’s not they can and they can decuct it from your pay unless it drops you below minimum wage.

Uh ..I'd double check that. I worked in Florida and OSHA requirements were at least 1 30 minute lunch and 2 15 minute breaks for an eight hour shift.

Your company might just be breaking the law. Which of course is common in the sunshine state.

No I mean if you're working during your break that legally becomes not a break anymore. In Virginia at least.

Florida labor laws require employers to grant a meal period of at least 30 minutes to employees under the age of 18 who work for more than 4 hours continuously. ... Florida does not have any laws requiring an employer to provide a meal period or breaks to employees 18 years of age or older, thus the federal rule applies.
Quote:

Many employers provide employees with a rest or lunch break, whether paid or unpaid. This common practice is not required everywhere, however: The federal wage and hour law, called the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), doesn't require employers to provide meal or rest breaks.
