I hear you but it is just as much a problem with capitalism as it is one of policy and lack of funding to mental health and rehabilitation programs.

Tldr I know dude it sucks

Most people just sneak it anyways. At the airport where they stock the mini fridges with food everybody was always taking those little bottles of liquor home on Fridays. Which is actually extremely illegal beyond the rules of a job since it's at an airport.

You have to bury it under all the bull**** for protection because everybody will try to take a bite out of your heart to see if it's really made of gold.

Put that on a Facebook meme for idiots to share.

So we developed a system. I double bagged the food and put all the coffee into empty milk jugs and set them behind the dumpster where my dudes would then collect them. Peeps from the pizza place a few businesses down caught on and started following suit.

I was always getting in trouble at that job though because I'd give away free stuff and I'd give people water when it was hot and let them sleep in the booths and stuff if it was raining. Those with and without homes.

Not to toot my own horn, I dont think I'm some savior, just letting you know it's possible to not be a bootlicker even with cameras and bosses down your neck.

I still see my guy Michael outside of gas stations on my side of town all the time now and he always asks me about how school is going and remembers my dog's name and he gifted me a clock and some scratchers last time I saw him lol.

heh. When I was a teenager I worked at a deli and at night we had to throw out all the hot food left over. So I had people who would come towards the end of the night and I would load their plate up with as much as I could fit and alter the price so it was like a dollar. Then half the people would slip me a 5 dollar tip.

But if I was tasked with disposing of 10k of candy I probably would've done the same **** he did. What are you going to try to give all that away? Too much hassle.

We're over working for things we don't need while a large portion of it gets thrown out and wasted. Hunter gatherers typically only work 3 hours at most when they have easy access which isn't even nearly as abundant as our access. So if we have to exploit our people to an unhealthy level of being unnaturally over worked it should at least pay off by not throwing a good chunk of perfectly good food into the garbage while other members of our species are literally starving. That is evil.

Pretty sure there are tons of ways to get free food in this country. Would be one thing in Africa or something but I don't see what good a bunch of melted candy bars are.

The other problem is we live in a litigious society as well do if you did give that **** out to people and one of them ended up being spoiled you would get sued.

That's why you don't give them **** that could be spoiled. There's tons of food that won't spoil, like cookies, that get thrown under that stupid umbrella. Melted candy bars are great and better than nothing and aren't spoiled until he dumped bleach on them so people that are so desperate that they ravage dumpsters can't even have them. They can easily be sent to starving countries. My rant was thinking in more of a broader spectrum than just the candy elph was told to waste.

Mostly I wanted that candy I was just hiding my selfish outrage behind an altruistic, all though truly heartfelt, rant.

Lol. See i don't like candy and when I was homeless I could always find something to eat without going dumpster diving. That's why my opinion is biased in the other direction.

I think if it were canned food or something fair enough that's a serious waste.

Fresh pizza. I knew a dude that'd wait until Pizza Hut closes so he could raid their dumpster for freshly thrown out pizza.

When I was in Austin recently there was a lot of homeless wandering around. You could tell it's a liberal city so they flock there. One lady was just sitting up against a building with a heroin gaze and a pizza in a box, open and barely touched. You could tell some well meaning softie probably gave it to her when all she really wanted was drug money.

Lucem Ferre 07-23-2019 06:31 PM

She's still gonna get hungry eventually.

jwb 07-23-2019 06:37 PM

There are usually plenty of soup kitchens, churches, salvation army etc to find a meal or even just groceries if you're down on your luck but not homeless. I think a lot of people are either unaware of the resources available or they are so strung out they just naturally go for days without worrying about eating so long as they can find the next hit.

I'm not saying giving food isn't a nice gesture but it's like a band aid rather than a solution.
