Yeah. I didn't expect it either. I guess I had sick & vacation time built up or something.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Two separate occasions.

Edit: I didn't get paid that week, but I did the two.

A came to work and killed my boss and pissed on the flat top but they didn’t fire me

Edit: I actually raped my boss.

I got paid some sweet overtime because it took all night to chase him down

I’m a revolutionary

You might be joking, but seriously. That time you stood up to your coworker then I think you took the next day off and when you came back they apologized when you thought you'd be fired it was because you showed them how valuable of a worker you are. Not letting them bully you around is revolutionary.

Edit: At least more revolutionary than anything I did. I'd typically comply or apologize just to avoid working with tension.

Well that was a nice thing to say. I never assume I’m not going to get fired soon though. My replacement might be there Monday morning. This isn’t advice to anyone else but for me I prefer to make peace with the temporary nature of employment rather than strive for job security.

When I was a teacher I saw so many really good teachers get fired (or non-renewed since it was a yearly contract for most). For three years I had one period a day where I didn’t teach. I just bounced around and made sure the special ed kids were ok because I wrote their education plans and ****. But my point is, I saw the classrooms a hundred times more than the principal and time after time I saw the best teachers get let go. Most people think “if I work hard so I won’t get fired” but really it’s like poker: If you’re a good player it helps a lot but sometimes you get a streak of really ****ty cards and being a good player won’t compensate for it. And it can snowball either way. You can keep dropping down the job ladder. Our dishwashers last about three weeks. Since I’ve been at this job I’ve seen way better cooks get fired for far less than the bonkers **** I did.

They might have a replacement for me ready on Monday. You never know. Half of me would be shouting hallelujah I’m free and the other half would be totally sunk.

Well, yeah. Politics unfortunately rule pretty much any facet of the work force especially when the employer doesn't have a clue about what it's like in the work space. I imagine it's especially bad in the education system with all the stupid pressures of making sure students pass tests in time rather than allowing them to learn at a natural pace. I couldn't imagine the pressures of being a teacher in some ghetto underfunded schools.
