Pretty much anything you do could impose suffering so with that point of view everything is unethical.

^ When I read this sentence, it immediately made me wonder if there's a way to bring a sentient being into this world with its consent. Please advise.

I'm sure many of us remember ladyislingering's monster thread, and all the controversy that it sparked off. I'm hoping no-one is keen to relive that debate, so although I'm putting a link, I'm also asking, Please don't add to the 48 pages of posts that it already has:- LiL's Many Benefits of a Child-free Life:https://www.musicbanter.com/current-...free-life.html

I know some of you here have had terrible first-hand experience of abusive or irresponsible (step)parents. I can't imagine how awful some of those scenarios that you lived through must have been - but let's not forget that there are also some good guys around. Personally, I applaud [MERIT] if he's entertaining his son for the weekend - and when he mentioned Lego, he reminded me of many contented hours that I have spent, first as a child, then as a father playing with Lego. Some music to listen to, some casual conversation and a box of Lego to share; if you're lucky, this is the stuff that good memories are made of.

There are step dads that don't abuse their kids. There is a reason why inductive reasoning is considered a logical fallacy.

Okay. I'm not going to judge somebody for having a kid because of the chance it experiences or causes misery though. Just as I don't want somebody to judge me for not wanting kids.

There are great parents all around but that really doesn't affect the morality of having a child.

I like the fact that new people are being born every day, each making their own contribution to this crazy world, even if most of them just end up as worldbuilding extras.

Keeps things interesting.

So people suffer. Boo hoo. Suffering is actually awesome and underrated, and results in some of the best art. I say the more suffering, the better. **** voluntary extinction. Let's spread our filth all over the ****ing galaxy and then jerk off to the hilarious results.

The moral implications of having a child really don't exist. It's not bad, it's not good. It just is. Until you add other factors into it. Having a child doesn't predetermine an immoral amount of suffering. The conditions the child is raised in does. Even then, lets say the suffering of the child creates a character who does a great part in ending a particular immoral affliction in the world. What is the morality of that?
