In the winter of 2015 half of the modest downtown area in my hometown burnt down. Firefighters were helpless to stop it as it was -30 degrees and the fire hoses kept freezing.
Last month my family's cabin in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, where I spent the majority of my childhood f*cking around in the forest, and was lost in the Roosevelt Fire. 50,000 acres burnt and 25 structures destroyed, all because some idiot didn't put out their campfire properly. AND this week marks a year since the Tubbs fire here in Northern California. I'm reminded every day how close I came to losing everything in the blaze, it came within half a mile of my house. It's just like, wtf. Who's the comedian that said that when they were young they expected quicksand to be a much bigger problem in their life? I guess I never expected fire to be such a theme in mine. |
