Why has that ship sailed? You can stop if you want mate.

Anyway other than that good advice.

It's not possible to be an alcoholic and control your drinking or drink 'in moderation' imo. The two things contradict each other. You might get away with it a few times and think you have it sussed but it's only a matter of time before the regularity and amount increases and you're back where you were. "One is too many and a hundred is never enough."

Complete abstinence is the only way. This is just my opinion though.

Cheers Charles thought you meant you were past the point of being helped or stopping drinking even if you tried to get help.

I wonder what kind of silly stuff I'll tell myself if I ever quit drinking. I once had a friend explain to me that the reason that he was puking in the morning wasn't because of all of the vodka that he drank, but rather because his stomach released chemicals and they didn't have anywhere to go when he is laying asleep in one spot.

Moderation is just putting yourself at the top of a slippery slope that you can avoid if you're very careful but can go downhill fast. If it's causing problems for you, then it's better to just cut it out entirely. Smoke blunts all day though.

To add an opinion, abstinence is the only way to stop drinking. Clinics always seemed like a waste of time to me. If you want to quit drinking, stop. That is how I quit
smoking.
If you cannot, then you are addicted. Simple. So prioritize your life, get a good reason to stop, and focus on that. A clinic just seems like baby stepping towards the question "Why do you drink/smoke/overeat/etc." Answer that question and go from there.

I drink out of some sort of desperate boredom. Kinda slippery slopey, probably, even if the amount is very controlled so far.

A. I don't want to stop drinking. I enjoy a few drinks at the end of the day.
B. Definitely not going to stop vaping hash oil - again end of the day.
C. Been doing fantastic since getting back together with Lin. She mentioned earlier this week "I don't know what you're doing but keep doing it. I've definitely noticed the change."
D. All it takes for me to start getting slurry is half a beer. Linda has developed a highly sensitive slur radar. When she gets home from work she can tell after only a brief exchange if I've been drinking during the day.
E. That Smart Recovery program might just be what I've been looking for. Same basic principles as AA but no religious baggage. They have a meeting hall that's less than a 10 minute drive from my house. Plus they do daily on-line meetings, 24/7 live online chat, and a discussion forum you can utilize if you feel a slip coming on.

They don't preach total abstinence - although that's what they'd like to see. They put just as much focus on avoiding abuse/maintaining moderation. That's my goal.

In other news, Jeff Flake caved and is voting for Kavanaugh. When a close colleague was told about his decision in the halls of the Capitol he blurted out "Oh F*ck.... " before pausing and then apologizing.

And Lindsey Graham is being hailed an absolute hero of heroes in the bowels of the White House and in the Trumpistan areas of the US. Watching his outburst again today it comes across so overwrought that it could have been a scene in The Room.

I enjoy a few drinks. I'd enjoy a few shots of heroin as well. Doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it.

Alcohol is basically toxic, so it's probably a bad idea in any amount. But I like feeling lightly buzzed now and again.

I don't know how people who live in apartments can drink heavily. Puking in your backyard is far more dignified than hoping you don't get splashback from toilet water.
