I went to the courthouse on the date that was given to me and was asked to meet privately with the cop that wrote the ticket and his supervisor. They asked me to tell my side of the story and afterwards they said "we'll lower the fine from $230 to $50 if you agree to pay it or you can go before the judge and we'll ask for the full $230 if you're found guilty." I was prepared to challenge the ticket in court on a technicality (even though I knew I was guilty) but at that point I figured I'd just pay the lowered fine and not waste any more of my time at the courthouse. The best part was that It never showed up on my record so my insurance wasn't affected.

That's really cool, actually, and that it worked out.

Mine was similar, about 75 to 80 in a 55 MPH zone. In my case the cop got me and the other guy, so I don't think I was going to get out of it. I hate the courts and lawyers and all that, but I did get it fixed as I had money from my summer job and didn't want my insurance going up. Who knows if the mathz would've workout out (been cheaper) with an insurance cost bump had I just let it go through, but there isn't a guide for that sort of thing on how much they would raise it and I didn't want to risk it.
