I disagree with all this. If you have that relationship with your mother it's nobody's business, and she should have said to her needle-nosed friend, "Ah no it's ok we do this all the time." That would have taken the wind out of nosey's sails and left her nowhere to go but fume quietly. By "supporting" her, your mother dissed you and let you down, making it seem as if this was NOT something that you usually did, and that she too was shocked.

tl;dr: your mother's a pussy for not standing up for you.

Also, **** society: you were on your turf. **** them. If they don't like it let them get the **** out. If you mother thought this was going to be a problem with certain friends there were two things she could have done:
1) Warn them that this might happen and not to take offence
2) Ask you in advance not to do it.
She did neither and just folded when she should have supported you.

1. It weighed half a pound in the package and I trimmed off some fat. That picture is a bit deceiving. But ya, I couldn't finish it so I gave the leftovers to Max. Pretty sure I'm in love with Weber's Montreal Steak rub. **** is the bomb!
